We regularly receive questions about selecting the proper recoil pad for the Marlin 336 and Marlin 1895 lever action rifles, and this past November was no exception. As we answer questions from customers shopping for and installing our Sorbothane®-based rifle and shotgun recoil pads, we hope that by publishing some of these we'll be able to help others who are doing the same.

Answer: We typically recommend KICK-EEZ All Purpose Grind-To-Fit Recoil Pads, sized medium for both the Marlin 336 & the Marlin 1895 lever action rifle.
Determining Recoil Pad Thickness
The caliber and the weight of a gun usually dictate the thickness of the recoil pad you will need. Also, many of the Marlin wood stocks have screw holes that are approximately 2 3/4” apart, center-to-center, requiring you to create one new screw hole in your stock to match the 3 1/8” separation found in most recoil pads.
KICK-EEZ Grind-to-Fit All-Purpose Recoil Pad
We almost always recommend our Marlin customers order a
Medium All Purpose Grind-To-Fit Recoil Pad for both the Marlin 336 & Marlin 1895 lever action rifles. This recoil pad is 5 1/4” long x 1 7/8” wide, and has screw holes that are 3 1/8” apart, center-to-center. Going back to the caliber and the weight of your rifle, if your length-of-pull will allow the use of a thicker recoil pad, we generally recommend customers order either our All Purpose Grind to Fit Pad, Item #302-10-M-B, which is 1 1/8” thick or our Item #302-8-M-B which is 15/16” thick. Either pad will give the recoil reduction needed for both the Marlin 336 & the Marlin 1895 lever action rifle.
